Auuuugh! School? What School????

I am SO NOT READY for the next school year!!!!! And I'm not just talking emotionally. I'm not READY ready. I still need to grade old papers (my goal for the month of August) and figure out exactly what materials I need to get (very little, thankfully, as I already have most of what I need), and so on and so forth.

I need to sit down and write out which subjects each student is going to cover and pick out which literature selections they shall read. And arrange the textbooks on the shelf, etc. etc.

And I need to find some free on-line writing resources on how to write a good persuasive essay and how to write a research paper. Because that's on the table for my High Schoolers this year.

And I need to do some sewing. Always the sewing. I'd rather be sewing than overseeing the Home School, but both are my work, so I'd better DO both. But I think a few sewing jobs will see me the owner of my own lap top, which I really need.

For sure, I need to get this book.

Someday, I'll write the story on how to nickle-and-dime homeschooling and do it on a shoestring, because that is what it sure does feel like, every blessed year!

Your link to "this book" doesn't go to a book description. I'm curious now, which book are you referring to?

Oh sorry. History of the Medieval world. Susan Wise Bauer (not her Story of the World series, but the one for older people.)

Alana, I am one of your Mom's high school friends. I enjoyed reading the blog she postedon FB. I have dealt with chronic illness for over 30 years. I definited identify with you about the choir thing. My illness is connected to several levels of digestive issues which led to 6 surgeries in one year 20 years ago. I still have to deal with them after all this time. Chronic illness are little understood. When people ask how you are doing, they don't really want to be bogged down with what you could tell them. I have often thought of the woman with the issue of blood who touched Jesus. That health issue kept that woman unclean for all those years. Her faith, however, healed her heart before in her faith she touched Jesus for healing of her body. Earthly healing does not always come. Have you heard of Khan Academy. It is free and funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. It is on line lessons in math, history, and science. There is no cost and they work well for children who are comfortable with structure such as your kids. The math lessons and practice go from 1 plus 1 all the way to calculus. I thought you might be interested in taking a peak at this. I also love sewing and have done it for the public. That is not always easy. Those who have difficulty with visualization can't see what you are thinking and there is just no connection until they can see the finished product. I hope you get your computer laptop soon. I enjoy your mom on FB. --EC

Thanks EC! WE do love Khan Academy, and use it supplementally. I hope my words are encouraging to others, that's why I put them "out there" on the internet. We are not alone and God is ALWAYS good!
