Cause and Effect

We here in the USA need to know. We need to know how the Christians in Iraq are doing
And we need to pray. And we need to repent. Martyrs are being made daily and some Christians in this country still believe there will be a rapture to spare them from tribulation? Puh-leeeese!

Lord have mercy on the martyred, and may we not disregard what is happening...

This happens off and on throughout the middle-east on a regular basis. Kidnapping and 'marriage by rape' of Coptic girls is quite common in Egypt, for example (http://www.kidnappedchristiangirls.org/) as is the payment of a 'mafia' type tax by Christian business owners and those who don't pay are beaten senseless, or their families are. The media doesn't report it because, I suspect, being generally liberal it feels the war with the oppressive regime that is Christianity has been largely won and doesn't want to drum up sympathy or interest. Our Christian leaders are either ignorant, frightened of making it worse or, in some cases, more interested in politicking and socialising.

I'm interested in the title of your post. I'm assuming you feel this priest's murder was the effect. So what was the cause?

The cause if a hornet's nest of wickedness and evil, or course. The kind of evil that will take anything as an excuse to strike out in such ways at innocent people.

And I wonder if it is a good or a bad thing to stir up the hornet's nest? I don't know. I just wonder.

Whew! I thought, by your title, that you were agreeing with the murderers that this is (somehow?)the fault of the Pope. You scared me for a minute.

It is dumb thing - usually - to stir up a hornets nest. Unless of course the hornet's nest is under your child's bed or in some other unwelcome place and it needs to be removed. At which point, discussion and debate may take place on the best way to do it...but regardless you will be stirring it in the end.

Hornets may be stirred by any number of things...they frequently need very little excuse to do their stirred up business. 1300 or so years have shown us as much, though we hear very little of it unless there is a potential western catalyst to blame.

We must be careful when considering cause and effect that we do not in any way negate the freewill of the hornets, which I assume they do actually have.

We might also do well to ask why the hornet's nest exists as such in the first place.

Deep and profound and important issues at play here. Indeed may we not disregard what is happening. We should have not disregarded what was happening LONG before 9/11 and long before W and long before Clinton...truly we should have been paying attention.

Thanks, Alana, for the advice on my blog. I will have to do that. Our icon corner isn't visable from our hallway or bedrooms, so I will have to set something up like that in our bedroom. I think that would probably help.
