Cat Pee

So, I go to put away a basket of clean laundry that's been sitting around folded and ready to put away for a few days and discover to my great dismay that our cat (the one who pees in the closet) decided to pee in that basket of laundry as well. I think it's the neutered male cat doing this.

How lovely.

Now I get to try and get cat urine odor out of some of my best clothes. Borax, enzymes, vinegar rinse....

More to the point: How to get the cat to stop doing this? I can change my behavior and stop leaving tempting baskets full of laundry lying about...but how to change his?

Nasty cat.

At least the mouse problem is mostly taken care of.

Nasty lazy cat.

Do you have the heart to let him cat around the neighborhood? Maybe a few days of rough living will impress the idea on him that only civilized cats live with people.

Alana,

I can sympathise. For almost the last ten months my parents have been struggling with toliet training their Corgi. They are finally beginning to make a break through (at the expense of their carpets, however). They have had to shampoo the caprpets multiple times to get the odor out. Ugh...

I had a similar problem with my white cat. She peed a great deal on everything. Sometimes it is a symptom of illness of some sort, either bladder infection or perhaps something more sinister. Also, some theorize (sp?) that cats pee on things as a way to communicate displeasure or unrest. I'm sure he is getting plenty of attention, so I would doubt he is feeling neglected. Hehe. As far as breaking the habit, I don't have any good advice. I didn't fare too well with my white cat. But these are just some theories and thoughts... Hope he get's better soon!

Ack! I'm so sorry. You have to be sure to get the area completely odor free - we buy that stuff that you used to smell on school busses to cover smell issues.

And, get a black light to be sure you are getting it all.

There's some stuff you can order off television called "Urine Gone". We considered getting some just to have. The commercial looks like something you'd see on SNL. But it's supposed to eradicate any traces of pet (or people) urine, AND it comes with a tiny black light that you can wave over suspicious areas.

Yet another reason for me to resist my daughter's begging for a kitten! gag.
we had this problem for years. finally i was searching and searching online and had tried EVERYTHING!!! vet 5 times, sprays plugins flower drops supplements deoderizers quarantining to kitchen (hey, it's better than the pound). FINALLY i found the solution on an online site for helpless pets. doggie diapers! now before you laugh or shreak in horror this has saved our lovely cat from a trip to the pound. i actually use baby diapers. tried a couple of sizes before finding the right one (size 2) we call them his "pants" and believe it or not he is a million times happier. he knows when it's time to change his pants, he actually gets down and waits for me to put them on now since i've been doing this for months now. i make a circle hole for his #2 right above the fold and added a slit above the circle for his tail. now mind you, every cat may not like these but mine does and a friend of mine's cat allows them too. best thing of all is our new 400,000 dollar home doesn't have one OUNCE of pee!!!!! our little boy is very happy! and we are too. good luck, lemme know if you have anymore questions.
p.s., i forgot to tell you that hydrogen peroxide or drugstore oxy booster completely eliminates any cat pee smell. i used to have to soak my down comforter pee spots in like 3 whole bottle of the stuff and it worked every time. no more of that though with the kitty pants.

I didn't end up doing anything...just washed the laundry, which turned out fine. He doesn't pee all the time. I just clean it up with enzymes when he does.
